The Kognetik – An Autological Structure Theory of Consciousness
Kognetik – An Autological Structure Theory of Consciousness formalizes cognition as a self-modifying system governed by structural operators rather than contents. The framework defines six primary operators — R (Resonance), Q (Sequence), U (Structure), K (Kognem), F (Feedback), L (Language) — describing how systems perceive difference, repeat behavior, edit internal rules, and stabilize through energetic efficiency. The theory introduces kognetic load (L) as the measurable energetic cost of repetition, establishing a principle of minimal structural expenditure that parallels but localizes Friston’s free-energy principle.Structural mutation (q → q′) is modeled as syntax drift within recursive loops, enabling a quantitative description of adaptive change.Kognetik integrates elements from second-order cybernetics, predictive processing, and autopoietic systems theory into a unified operational grammar. Empirical applicability is demonstrated through the Kognetic Mutation Logbook, an experimental self-report protocol mapping micro-level syntax edits to measurable reductions in ΔL.The framework defines new metrics such as the Kognetic Development Index (KDI) for assessing structural maturity and the Recursive Drift Instability (RDI) taxonomy for diagnosing overload in self-modifying systems. Kognetik thereby extends system theory from description to function: consciousness is defined as a system capable of rewriting the rule by which it operates. This document (v 1.0) constitutes the first complete research framework combining formal notation, energetic law, and applied demonstration for structural cognition.
