Cyprus healthcare in transition: the challenges of a newly established system in a small country
Abstract This presentation will explore the evolving healthcare landscape in Cyprus following the introduction of its new universal, national healthcare system (GHS). As a small country with limited resources but high expectations, Cyprus faces unique challenges in building a resilient, equitable, and sustainable healthcare system. Key themes of the presentation include: the structural and policy shifts introduced by GHS; ongoing challenges in workforce capacity, financing, and service delivery; the role of digital health, primary care, and integrated services; opportunities for innovation and international collaboration; and the specific needs of a small population with complex health demands. This session will highlight lessons learned and strategic priorities, including harmonization in medical practice through the adaptation of evidence-based recommendations.
