clinical and pharmacological approches to choice of drugs for bronchobstruction (BA,COPD)
A condition known as bronchial obstruction is characterized by a narrowing of the airways, which limits airflow and makes breathing difficult. It is the main pathological feature of Bronchial Asthma (BA) and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Bronchial Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disorder with reversible airway obstruction, airway hyperreactivity, and increased mucus secretion. COPD is a progressive, largely irreversible airway obstruction, most often due to chronic exposure to irritants such as cigarette smoke. The clinical approach to management depends on disease severity, reversibility of airway obstruction, frequency of symptoms, and risk of exacerbations. The pharmacological approach focuses on: Ø Bronchodilation (to relieve airway narrowing). Ø Anti-inflammatory control (to reduce airway inflammation). Ø Prevention of exacerbations and disease progression.
