Defect detection of epoxy resins by active infrared thermography with bath heating

Effective insulation is crucial for the efficient operation of power devices. However, detecting imperceptible defects within the insulation layer of power devices, particularly in the subsurface or shallow interior of the insulation, is technically difficult without intrusion. This study explores a non-destructive defect detection technique for insulation materials using active infrared thermography inspection combined with bath heating. Test results confirm that bath heating facilitates quicker and more precise exploration of defects in epoxy resin samples of power devices. Both thermal values and infrared images validate the effectiveness of this integrated approach. The time required to detect maximal thermal values have reduced when bath heating is applied. Moreover, bath heating expands the range of radiation received during the processing, aiding in the defect identification.
