5.Y.1. PechaKucha: Young people’s mental health

Abstract Crises are affecting the mental health of all age groups from adolescence to old age. This session brings together research on mental health from across Europe on this crucial theme. The first two presentations present evidence from high quality, national surveys on the changing prevalence of mental health disorders among young adults in Germany and England respectively, highlighting inequalities. The next two presentations consider the persisting influence of family context and parental distress on mental health. The session is designed to support synergies across countries. After presentations from each presenter there will be an extended audience discussion on implementing a public health approach to safeguarding the adults of the future. Key messages • The mental health of individuals in Europe is affected by crises such as the COVID 19 pandemic, wars and environmental degradation. • Mental health in children and young people matters to wellbeing across the whole life course.
