Hybrid Optical Neuron with Radial Polarization Filter and Polychromatic Detection: Architecture and Applications
Hybrid Optical Neuron with Radial Polarization Filter and Polychromatic Detection The invention proposes a compact hybrid optical neuron for multilevel signal processing, integrating optoelectronic and neuromorphic principles. It features a concentric radial polarization filter with 20 dedicated peripheral multicromatic windows (18° span each), tuned for spectral selectivity (Gaussian G(λ - λ_i), FWHM 20-50 nm), each paired with a dedicated GaAs/InGaAs photodiode measuring intensity (I), wavelength (λ, 400-1700 nm), and polarization angle (θ) via Stokes parameters. A transparent central window (α ≈ 0.05 area) enables isolated axial feedback for contextual mixing. Input light is pulsed at 1 GHz via an electro-optic modulator for synchronized operation. Analog logic circuits (TIA op-amps OPA657, comparators LM393) interpret signals locally, outputting binary-analog decisions (0-1 V) aggregated as S_mix = ∑ w_i · S_local,i + α · S_vecin (w_i = 1/20). Simulations show 35% crosstalk reduction, SNR ≈ 19 dB, and 4.2% stability gain in tandem neuron chains, enabling applications in AI hardware, medical diagnostics, surveillance, and more.
