A minute-level coordinated fault recovery strategy for grid-forming inverters-based resources and distribution networks

Extreme weather events increasingly challenge the reliability of power supply in distribution networks, as traditional fault recovery methods often fail to restore power swiftly and reliably. This paper proposes a minute-level coordinated fault recovery strategy for grid-forming inverter-based power sources (GFIBPS) and distribution networks. The strategy is divided into three phases: rapid response (0-2 seconds), regional analysis and optimization (2-60 seconds), and coordinated recovery (beyond 60 seconds). The core regional analysis phase includes boundary division of the preliminary islanded system, assessment of transferable loads and paths, identification of critical islanded regions, island partitioning, and switch command generation. Simulation results demonstrate that this strategy significantly improves voltage levels, restores power to all affected loads, and enhances the resilience and reliability of the power supply infrastructure.
