Research on voltage regulation requirements of sending-end grids with high-level renewable energy penetration

As renewable energy integration into power systems increases, sending-end grids face significant challenges in voltage regulation and stability, with transient overvoltage issues emerging as a key concern. Solving this issue is crucial for ensuring reliable operation and minimizing the risks of voltage instability and equipment damage. This paper specifically addresses the problem of voltage regulation under high renewable energy penetration. Firstly, it establishes a quantitative relationship between the variation in reactive power and the AC bus voltage at the sending end, which serves as a critical factor in maintaining grid stability. Subsequently, the paper proposes an analytical method to assess both the system's voltage regulation resource requirements and the voltage regulation capability demand from renewable energy plants. The proposed method is tested through simulations under various fault scenarios, showing its effectiveness and applicability in practical power system operations.
