Chilled Beams in Building Design

In recent years, sustainability and efficiency have made their way to the forefront of building design. There are also heightened concerns about maintaining a proper indoor environment for the building's residents at all times. A completely functional HVAC system must not only regulate temperature but also handle a variety of other indoor environmental concerns that impact occupant comfort, productivity, and health, including air distribution, ventilation, humidity control, noise levels, etc. For many buildings, chilled beam systems are frequently the best "green" option. Additionally, there is a strong case for using active chilled beam systems over other, more traditional options in terms of overall comfort and cost. Chilled beam systems are proven and have been used successfully in Europe for ten years, although they are relatively new in India. The report explores the principles, benefits, and challenges associated with chilled beams in building design, highlighting their role in creating healthier and more sustainable indoor environments. This also involves how energy efficiency and thermal comfort is acquired with the help of chilled beams and comparison of chilled beam system with other HVAC systems on the basis of different aspects like operational cost, energy efficiency, comfort level, maintenance, space requirements etc.
