Integrating Diversity and Health Determinants in Public Health Education: A Pan-European Approach
Abstract The ASPHER Core Curriculum Programme aims to unify and enhance public health education across Europe. Health determinants and their multifactorial influences shape population health for better or worse. Public health education, viewed through diversity and intersectionality, fosters a more holistic approach to training practitioners. Addressing the complex interplay of social, economic, and environmental factors ensures equitable and inclusive health strategies. ASPHER member schools were surveyed on curricula covering health determinants, diversity, and intersectionality. Twelve institutions contributed, and their curricula were analysed and mapped into themes. A modified Delphi process assessed inclusion and educational delivery levels. Seven core themes emerged for health determinants and twelve for diversity and intersectionality. Strong consensus supported integrating this content across public health education. Amid global shifts in diversity, equality, and misinformation, a well-educated workforce is essential to uphold equitable public health practices for all populations. Key messages • A pan‑European, consensus‑built curriculum map for public‑health training now exists. • Integrating health determinants, diversity, and intersectionality is essential for equitable public health education.
