11.N. Round table: Advancing equity: Inclusive policies in public services for marginalized communities
Abstract Previous research indicates that migrants and the Roma population experience higher levels of discrimination compared to the majority population. These experiences have significant implications for both individual and public health. In certain cases, affirmative action may be warranted, particularly in the initial stages of service pathways. The Agency - services that promote equity, antidiscrimination and participation -project, funded by the European Social Fund Plus (ESR+), seeks to address these disparities by developing services and training professionals. All project initiatives are based on evidence-based research and are designed to alleviate pressures on various sectors within wellbeing services counties. Special attention in this workshop will be given to Helsinki and Finland's role as key locations where policymakers and authorities act as both listeners and decision-makers. This session aims to foster accountability and generate actionable insights for more inclusive policies. Workshop Format This 60-minute roundtable discussion will feature 3-5 panelists exploring the implementation and impact of affirmative action within wellbeing services counties. The session will transition into an interactive discussion, engaging both panel members and the audience. This workshop serves as a platform for diverse perspectives, fostering dialogue between professionals, decision-makers, and affected communities. Key messages • Can affirmative action contribute to improved public health outcomes? • The implementation of best practices is expected to yield long-term benefits and cost savings for wellbeing services counties.
