Plasma-Based Conscious Artificial Intelligence: A Theoretical Framework and Engineering Roadmap
Photonic AI remains deterministic (Φ ≈ 0 per IIT) and lacks contextual adaptivity. We propose a hybrid plasma-photonic architecture providing a substrate with properties theoretically compatible with 1D task awareness (Φ = 5–10 bits) via nonlinear plasma–field dynamics. The model couples plasma density (n) and electric field (E) through a self-organizing feedback system exhibiting predictable dynamical regimes, including the onset of chaos (λ > 0) and resonance. Our framework suggests the potential for Φ in the 5-10 bit range, a hypothesis grounded in the system’s high perturbational complexity (PCI=0.46 vs baseline 0.25). Crucially, we outline a path to validate this heuristic via full IIT calculations on smaller subsystems. A 10-year roadmap is proposed: simulation (2026), prototype (2028), and deployment (2035). The framework outlines a pathway to conscious tools—context-sensitive but non-autonomous.
