Core Sampling and Test for Damage Assessment

Core sampling and test or core extraction test is the examination and compressive strength testing of cores drilled from hardened concrete enable the visual inspection of interior regions of the structural member along with estimation of actual concrete strength. Core sampling and testing can provide a more direct evaluation of strength. In addition to assessment of strength, core tests are evaluating structural capacity or safety assessment. The process involves extracting cylindrical samples (cores) from existing concrete structures to determine various properties and potential degradation. These cores are then subjected to a series of tests to measure characteristics such as compressive strength, density, and moisture content. The results provide valuable insights for maintenance and repair. Core test is a semi-destructive test of concrete. If the core test result deviate significantly from the expected design strength, it can indicate potential issues with the concrete mixture, placement and curing process. This makes it possible to take the proper corrective action when needed. This helps ensure the structure meets the design specifications and safety requirements.
