Relational Narrative Intelligence (RNI): A Framework for Integrative Neurotheology and Relational Healing
Abstract (long form)This paper introduces the Relational Narrative Intelligence (RNI) Framework, a new theoretical model within integrative neurotheology that unites neuroscience, psychology, and theology to explain healing as a process of relational coherence. Developed from Beilby’s Fear–Freedom–Conscience trilogy, the RNI framework conceptualises story as the mediating interface between neural integration and spiritual transformation.RNI proposes that human beings are narrative-theological organisms whose cognitive, affective, and spiritual systems are oriented toward connection. Drawing from trauma research, narrative psychology, and theology, the model identifies four recursive phases—Encounter, Coherence, Integration, and Transcendence—through which disconnection becomes meaning, and fear matures into conscience. Each phase corresponds to observable neural dynamics, psychological mechanisms, and theological motifs. The framework argues that relational storytelling, empathy, and ritual are neuro-theological catalysts that re-synchronise physiological and moral systems. It concludes by outlining implications for pastoral care, spiritual formation, and interdisciplinary research, positioning RNI as a conceptual bridge between the humanities and brain science in understanding the sacred dynamics of healing.
