Digital Circuitality I: The Post-Debt Paradigm
We introduce Digital Circuitality, a paradigm shift in software engineering characterized by the transition from probabilistic to deterministic systems through exhaustive verification. Unlike traditional software development, which accepts technical debt and probabilistic reliability, Digital Circuitality achieves hardware-grade determinism through compositional verification enabled by AI-assisted testing. We formalize the concept as an emergent property of systems where every component is exhaustively verified-tested across 100% of execution paths-and demonstrate that such systems exhibit circuit-like behavior: deterministic, composable, and thermodynamically stable. We analyze the economic implications of this paradigm, showing that the traditional trade-off between development speed and software quality dissolves when verification costs approach zero through automation. This work establishes the foundational framework for Digital Circuitality, later extended through thermodynamic analysis (Paper II), coherence principles (Paper III), and formal algebraic structures (Paper IV). Our contribution redefines software as a deterministic medium capable of achieving the reliability standards previously exclusive to hardware circuits.
