The Role of Optimism in Building Mental Resilience
This qualitative review examines the role of optimism in fostering psychological resilience, emphasizing the mediating influence of adaptive coping strategies, emotional regulation, and self-awareness. Synthesizing insights from contemporary psychological research, the paper argues that optimism functions as a motivational resource that encourages engagement with challenges rather than avoidance. However, its effectiveness in promoting resilience depends on the individual’s capacity for self-reflection and contextual understanding. The discussion integrates theoretical and empirical perspectives to propose a conceptual framework illustrating how optimism interacts with coping mechanisms to enhance emotional stability. By highlighting the dynamic and context-dependent nature of resilience, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of how positive psychological traits support sustainable mental well-being. Keywords: optimism, coping strategies, psychological resilience, emotional regulation, self-awareness, well-being, positive psychology.
