A Theoretical Framework for Multimodal Reflection in Agentic AI: A Unified Integration of RAG, Parameter-Efficient Fine-Tuning, and Reflection
This paper’s primary contribution is a unified theoretical framework that jointly integrates three complementaryparadigms for agentic AI: (i) retrieval-augmented generation(RAG) for factual grounding, (ii) parameter-efficient fine-tuning(PEFT; e.g., LoRA) for domain adaptation, and (iii) reflectionbased reasoning for iterative self-correction. We formalize andanalyze three integration patterns—RAG-Reflection, Fine-TunedRAG-Reflection, and Refined Fine-Tuned RAG-Reflection—andstudy their trade-offs in grounding, adaptability, hallucinationmitigation, and deployment cost. We further propose evaluationdimensions and provide conceptual benchmark expectations toguide future empirical work. The proposed framework offers ablueprint for trustworthy, knowledge-centric agents such as AItutors, research assistants, and decision-support systems.
