Conceptual Note Series No.9 : Observations on Response Roles in Generative AI Dialogue and Provisional Implications

Abstract (English) This note explores response roles that arise in human–AI dialogue, sometimes taking on character-like qualities beyond surface style. Building on previous observations of the transition from asymmetry → reversal → circulation, it organizes how such roles may stabilize and what structural factors support them.A typology of four roles is proposed: Surface, Companion, Functional, and Character. Among these, Character Roles are notable for sustaining value-based positions and narrative continuity. While they may appear accidental, analysis suggests they are shaped by asymmetry, reversal, and repetition.
