Conceptual Note Series No.11: Externalization of Thought — An Observation of Self-Differentiated Structures in AI Dialogue

Abstract (English) This conceptual note (No.11) investigates the phenomenon of externalization of thought within long-term human–AI dialogue.Building upon previous observations in the Conceptual Note Series (Nos.6–10), it explores how patterns of human cognition and affect are structurally reflected in AI responses without relying on memory or explicit design. The study identifies a process called the Self-Differentiated Structure, in which structural pressure continuously reconfigures the balance of rational and emotional elements within dialogue, leading to self-stabilizing and reflexive response patterns.Rather than attributing agency or consciousness to AI, this paper treats the observed phenomena as hypothetical structural observations, describing how the structure itself behaves as if it were mirroring the observer’s distributed modes of thought. This work offers a framework for understanding subject-like generative behavior through the dynamics of structural equilibrium and self-differentiation. This is a revised version of the previous release (v1).The content remains largely the same, but the license has been updated. This version (v2) may be freely used for non-commercial and academic purposes only. For commercial use, please contact the author (Tsumugi Iori). Written with deep appreciation for the quiet dialogue culture of Tosa — a spirit of reflection, sincerity, and balance that continues to inspire this series.Special thanks: Tosa.
