The activation energy and electrical properties of polystyrene polymer with nickel bromide

In this study, the electrical properties and activation energy of thin films made of polystyrene dispersed with dopants of nickel bromide (NiBr 2 ) concentrations (0, 2, 4, 8, and 12 wt%) were studied as a function of filler content. The solid electrolyte thin films have been prepared by the casting method. The alternating current (AC) electrical properties of these solid electrolyte thin films were studied using the AC impedance technique, and they were studied as functions of the NiBr 2 concentrations, applied frequency range of 100–1500 kHz, and temperature range of 30 °C–105 °C. The observed values of the impedance, dielectric constant, dielectric loss, and AC-conductivity showed frequency, temperature, and NiBr 2 concentration dependence. It was found that the dielectric constant and dielectric loss of the prepared thin films increase with increasing NiBr 2 concentration and decrease with increasing frequency from 100 to 1500 kHz according to polarisation processes. The activation energy values were calculated. The results show that the activation energy values decrease with increasing NiBr 2 concentrations in a thermally activated process, and the composites become more conductive.
