MODEL ČITANJA: INTERPRETACIJA I KLINIČKE IMPLIKACIJE
Introduction. Reading is a complex cognitive skill that is acquired \nthrough learning. For successful reading, processes of visual analysis \nof script, sensorimotor transformations of orthographic script into \nphonological codes and their connection with semantic representations \nare necessary. There are several different models for understanding the \nfunctioning of these processes and their interrelationship. \nThe goal. The aim of this paper is to present and interpret the dual rout \nmodel of reading from the aspect of its applicability in clinical practice. \nMethod. Internet search engines and electronic databases were used to \ncollect and analyse empirical data. Original and review papers, books \nand chapters in books that talk about reading and reading disorders \nwere taken into account. Also, printed versions of monographs, \ntextbooks and collections of papers available in the University Library \nin Belgrade were used. \nResults. The results showed that the dual rout model of reading \ndominates in contemporary literature. This model includes two basic \nways \nof \nprocessing \nwritten \nwords: \nlexical \nand \nnon-lexical \n(phonological). The importance of a differentiated approach to the \ninterpretation of reading errors, as well as the importance of the \nclassification of dyslexia based on damage to the basic reading \npathways, is emphasized. It was also emphasized that the model of \nreading provides guidelines for the design of measurement \ninstruments for the assessment of reading disorders, as well as for \nchoosing an adequate treatment method. \nConclusion. Consideration of the dual model of reading contributes to \nthe extending of knowledge about the cognitive processing of written \nlanguage, as well as about the specifics of this processing in languages \nwith different orthographies. The interpretation of reading disorders \nresults in the context of current theoretical models contributes to the \nimprovement of the diagnostics and treatment of dyslexia.
