Autonomous Robotics Extensible System (AReS): A Multi-Domain Design for the New NATO Force Model in the Context of Global Swarm Convergence
The Autonomous Robotics Extensible System (AReS) is a multi-domain, networked System-of-Systems (SoS) designed to reinforce the New NATO Force Model (NFM) against advanced robotic swarm threats. The core strategic goal is to achieve algorithmic superiority by minimizing the Time-to-Effect (TTE) to under 50ms, directly challenging the People's Liberation Army (PLA)'s estimated ≈100ms OODA loop. The system features Extensibility (χ) for rapid Allied integration and is organized into three tiered readiness levels (Tier 1−3). Capability is formally anchored by a Markov Decision Process (MDP) for continuous readiness and a Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP) model for optimal force allocation. AReS is NATO's systematic response to China's Civil-Military Fusion (CMF)-driven swarm doctrine and the Intelligentization (ι) strategy. The architecture incorporates quantitative validation pathways (e.g., ≤200ms MILP solve time), a Zero-Trust Architecture (ZTA), specific Adversarial AI mitigations (like randomized smoothing), and a rigorous Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) matrix to ensure ethical and legal compliance, transforming the concept into a fund-ready technical blueprint.
