U.S. AGRICULTURAL EXPORTS TO SOUTHEAST ASIA – RECENT MARKET DYNAMICS & EMERGING PATHWAYS: Insights for Small and Mid-Sized American Producers
This white paper analyzes the recent dynamics of U.S. agricultural exports to Southeast Asia, focusing on Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Drawing on data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Economic Research Service (ERS) and Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS), it examines export composition, tariff structures, competitive positioning, and evolving market pathways across modern retail, foodservice, and processing sectors. The findings indicate a gradual shift from bulk commodities toward consumer-oriented and ingredient-based products, supported by urbanization, income growth, and the rise of e-commerce. For small and mid-sized American producers, opportunities lie in aligning export strategies with certification standards, retail and digital networks, and regional partnerships. These developments underscore Southeast Asia’s growing importance to U.S. trade diversification and resilient agri-food supply chains.
