Presentation: TopoChronia: A QGIS Plugin for Quantified Palaeogeographic Reconstructions
We present TopoChronia, an open-source QGIS plugin designed to generate fully quantified palaeogeographic maps from plate tectonic models. Optimized for the PANALESIS model, TopoChronia enables dynamic, time-coherent reconstructions and integrates sea-level correction using Airy’s model. The plugin outputs high-resolution rasters and sea-level data over the Phanerozoic, allowing comparison with stratigraphic curves. Results show strong agreement with published data, highlighting tectonics as a key driver of long-term sea-level change. TopoChronia promotes reproducibility and FAIR principles in geoscientific research and is available at github.com/florianfranz/topo_chronia.
