Machine Learning and AI: The Educational System and Personalized Learning Technologies (PLTs)

This study explores the decline of the U.S. education system and investigates howPersonalized Learning Technologies (PLTs)—powered by artificial intelligence (AI)and machine learning—can offer transformative solutions. Through an extensiveliterature review and comparative analysis of high-performing education systems inFinland, Japan, Norway, and the Netherlands, the research identifies personalizedlearning as a consistent factor across diverse socio-economic and cultural contextswith high performance in education across the world. The study defines PLTs asdigital systems such as intelligent tutoring systems, adaptive learning algorithms, and predictive analytics that customize educational experiences based on individualstudent needs. Results highlight significant academic and emotional benefits ofpersonalization, including improved student engagement, academic achievement, and holistic development. However, challenges such as data privacy, infrastructuredisparities, and the need for teacher training must be addressed. The findingssuggest that with appropriate implementation, PLTs can enhance educational equityand effectiveness in the U.S., aligning its system with 21st-century demands.
