Generator-Filter Theory: A Universal Framework for Unifying Organizational Principles Across Scientific Disciplines
For centuries, scientific inquiry has been characterized by fragmentation, with distinct laws and models applied to phenomena in physics, biology, neuroscience, and beyond. GeneratorFilter Theory (GFT) proposes a universal language of organization that bridges these divides. By conceptualizing systems as Generator-Filter pairs, GFT enables a synthesis of knowledge, allowing insights from one field to inform others. This paper outlines the core components of GFT, provides a step-by-step methodology for its application, and illustrates its utility through interdisciplinary examples. The theory integrates generative processes with filtering mechanisms, mediated by energy, information, and memory, to explain emergence and complexity across scales.
