Accessible Air Quality Forecasting for the Arctic: The AURORAE Tool
Presentation, Arctic Circle Assembly 2025 (17 October 2025, Reykjavik, Iceland) The Arctic region is experiencing a transformation in its fire regime as a consequence of climate change, resulting in increased emissions of air pollutants and growing concerns regarding air quality. Effective communication with local communities plays a crucial role in emergency prevention, preparedness, and response actions, particularly in managing disasters such as wildfires. The purpose of this session is to evaluate the current state of communication regarding wildfires and air quality in the Arctic, discuss related needs and perceptions of Indigenous communities and local institutions. In addition, the session will explore the usefulness of technical solutions developed under the Arctic PASSION (EU-Horizon) project and trace dependencies between effective communication and effective practical realisation of developed solutions. All mentioned discussions are expected to help technical solution providers to improve communication and information delivery to the public, ultimately supporting the well-being and resilience of Arctic communities.
