Tuberculosis and Periodontal Disease: A Review
Abstract: Tuberculosis (TB), caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, is a major global health concern, especially in developing nations. Periodontal disease, a chronic inflammatory condition that affects the supporting structures of teeth, is being increasingly studied for its systemic associations. Emerging evidence suggests a potential link between Tuberculosis and periodontal disease, though the relationship remains complex and underexplored. This narrative review aims to examine the current literature on the association between tuberculosis and periodontal disease, discuss possible mechanisms of interaction, and highlight the implications for dental practice.
