Enhancing MPLS-TP Security: Future-Proofing Grid Communications Against AI-Driven Cyber Threats and Post-Quantum Risk

This paper was presented at the CIGRE GCC 2025 Conference (Kuwait City, 10–12 November 2025) under the session on Communications and Cybersecurity in Smart Grids. It addresses the growing cybersecurity challenges in utility communication networks and introduces an enhanced architecture for MPLS-TP (Multiprotocol Label Switching – Transport Profile). The work proposes mechanisms to defend against AI-driven cyber threats and post-quantum cryptographic risks, combining MACsec, IPsec, and deterministic transport concepts to achieve layered protection for grid infrastructures. The record is archived on Zenodo to provide a permanent DOI reference for the original CIGRE GCC publication and to ensure long-term accessibility of the research.
