Freedom Beyond Purpose: Transcending Absurdism
This paper examines the relation between meaning and freedom, arguing that meaning implies a degree of dependency. To call something “meaningful” is to point to something external. From this, it follows that complete autonomy precludes meaning. Meaninglessness here is not moral worthlessness but ontological freedom. A universe without a creator or purpose bears the mark of its sovereignty, for it exists without necessity. The greatest property of the universe may therefore be not meaning, but freedom.
