Management of Uterovaginal Prolapse in Neonate : A Rare Case Report
Introduction: Congenital uterovaginal prolapse (UVP) at birth is an extremely rare condition, often associated with congenital muscular, neurological, and spinal disorders. Various management options are available, but conservative approaches are generally preferred over radical interventions.Case Presentation: We present a case of a one-day-old newborn diagnosed with congenital UVP. The patient also exhibited other congenital abnormalities, including holoprosencephaly, polydactyly, and microtia, which were detected during the pregnancy. The treatment involved a combination of manual digital reduction, followed by the insertion of a balloon catheter into the vaginal introitus to maintain the reduction. This was further complemented with a surgical purse-string suture. However, these approaches were unsuccessful. Thus, medical intervention with estradiol cream was added. The prolapse was resolved after three days of the application. Conclusion: Managing congenital UVP in the presence of congenital neurological abnormalities is a significant challenge due to its rarity. Conservative management is a common therapeutic strategy. The estrogen cream application might have benefit and should be considered with precaution. A combined approach of conservative and surgical interventions needs to be considered and tailored to the patient’s condition for effectively treat this complex condition
