The Continuity-Rupture-Re-alignment (C-R-R) Theory: Reframing Rupture as a Generative Pivot in the Process of Renewal

This publication introduces the Continuity–Rupture–Re-alignment (C-R-R) Theory, a mid-range sociological and transdisciplinary framework that reconceptualizes rupture as a generative pivot within the broader process of renewal. Developed by Muhammad Yaqoob Laghari, the theory proposes that systems—individual, organizational, societal, and planetary—evolve through five interdependent phases: Continuity, Rupture, Generative Pivot, Re-alignment, and New Continuity. Unlike linear “rupture–repair” models, the Generative Pivot identifies the reflexive mechanism through which meaning, learning, and adaptation transform disruption into creative evolution. The framework integrates insights from reflexive sociology, transformative learning, and complexity science to establish the foundation for a Sociology of Renewal relevant to post-2030 and post-2050 futures. By interpreting rupture as a generative force, the C-R-R Theory provides an analytical lens to understand and design renewal processes across multiple scales - from personal transformation and organizational change to social regeneration and planetary resilience. Its inclusive scope makes it applicable to the study of systems that continuously evolve through feedback, adaptation, and foresight. Version-History Note The first version of this work - Continuity–Rupture–Re-alignment (C-R-R) Theory: Foundational Concept Paper - was published on Zenodo in September 2025 (DOI 10.5281/zenodo.17228276) as an initial conceptual exposition. That edition introduced the basic triadic logic of continuity, rupture, and re-alignment but did not include methodological validation or applied propositions. The present publication constitutes the validated and research-ready version of the theory. It expands the conceptual foundation through an explicit methodological orientation, empirically testable propositions, and an extended multi-level framework for cross-disciplinary application. This refined publication therefore establishes the definitive scholarly introduction of the Continuity-Rupture-Re-alignment (C-R-R) Theory, issued under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License via Zenodo (2025) to support global citation, testing, and collaborative theoretical advancement. Open-Science Statement This open-access release follows the principles of transparent, collaborative knowledge creation. It establishes authorship, DOI-based citation, and accessibility for future comparative, empirical, and methodological studies. Researchers and educators are encouraged to cite, test, adapt, or extend the C-R-R framework within their respective fields - advancing a shared inquiry into how continuity, rupture, and re-alignment shape renewal across human, institutional, and planetary systems.
