A Difficult and Necessary Conversation on Abuse in Our Work
ABSTRACT The goal of this alternative event is to have a difficult and necessary conversation about abuse in our work and workplaces, specifically higher education and information institutions. Recently numerous scandals have shown that college campuses are places and spaces where individuals are encouraged to learn and grow while institutions protect themselves through complicated systems to report and investigate all styles of abuse. We will begin our time with speakers sharing their own experiences dealing with and working near abuse followed by facilitated community conversations allowing the participants to share and respond through a variety of creative outlets. We will make space for sharing experiences, solutions, and what support or resources we can build and share to help navigate this challenging reality.
