Freedom Beyond Purpose: Transcending Absurdism
This paper examines the relation between meaning and freedom, arguing that meaning implies a degree of dependency. To call something “meaningful” is to point to something external. From this, it follows that complete autonomy indicates meaninglessness. Meaninglessness here is not moral worthlessness but ontological freedom. A creatorless or purposeless universe bears the mark of its ontological superiority, for it exists without necessity. The greatest property of the universe may therefore be not meaning, but freedom.
