Use of Serious Games for Motor and Cognitive Development in Youths with Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Systematic Review

Given the increasing exposure of children to digital technologies and the demonstrated effectiveness of serious games (SGs) in educational and therapeutic settings, there has been growing interest in their application for fostering motor and cognitive skills in neurodivergent youth, particularly those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). In this context, the present study conducted a literature review analysing research published in internationally recognised databases. By offering a critical and comprehensive review of the existing literature, this research seeks to highlight the potential of SGs as a complementary resource in clinical interventions. Following the screening process, eight articles were included. While traditional therapeutic methods remain irreplaceable, the findings suggest that SGs serve as a valuable complementary approach, offering significant and promising contributions in this field.
