ROLE OF LIBRARIES IN ACHIEVING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT FOR VIKSIT BHARAT@2047

Viksit Bharat@2047 envisions India as an equitable, innovative, and sustainable nationby the centenary of independence. Libraries—public, academic, school, and special—arestrategic institutions to translate this vision into everyday capabilities: inclusive access toinformation, digital and data literacy, research acceleration, cultural preservation, and resilientcommunities. This article outlines why libraries are mission-critical to sustainable development,maps their contributions to key SDGs, and proposes a practical roadmap—policies, programs,partnerships, technology, and metrics—to help Indian libraries become high-impact engines ofsocial and economic progress by 2047 (NITI Aayog, 2024, 2025; PMO, 2025; United NationsGeneral Assembly, 2015).
