Assessment On the Physical and Mechanical Behavior of Waste Eucalyptus /High Density Polyethylene Composite for Ceiling Application.

Using particle board, gypsum board, wood and PVC as ceiling is associated with defect and failure; moisture absorption, sagging of ceiling and strain. This study tries to deals and solves the mentioned problems by testing and evaluating the physical and mechanical properties of composite material for the application of ceiling. The composite in this study is formulated in two different percentage composition, the wood filler was modified by heat treatment by 160 OC for 45 min and chemically treated with alkali treatment; 15% NaOH and acidic treatment; 5% HCL, the composite plate was manufactured by injection molding machine. Tensile and flexural strength from mechanical property and moisture absorption from physical property were tested and the results shows that 20/80 percentage composition has better mechanical property in both 100 and 80mesh particle size when the treating chemical was 15% NaOH and 35/65 percentage composition has better effect on the mechanical property when 100 and 80mesh wood particles were treated with 5% HCL. Among all the samples sample 3A has the highest tensile strength by having a tensile strength of 18.72N/mm2 while sample 4A shows the lowest tensile strength of 12.56N/mm2 and the lower flexural strength was 25.65 N/mm2 and sample 1A has the highest flexural strength by 56.09 N/mm2. For the moisture resistance sample 4A has high moisture resistance by having percentage moisture absorption of 0.13%, 0.34%, 0.55% 0.76% and 0.79% in 24hr, 1st week, 2nd week, 3rd week and 2hr boiling water immersion period.
