Using OnSSET in Modelling a Decentralize Electrification in Kano and Jigawa
The scenario models electricity access expansion in Kano and Jigawa from 2023 to 2030, targeting 80% electrification. Population is projected to grow from 23.8 million to 26 million, with average urban households of 6–7 persons and rural households of 11–12 persons. Using OnSSET, the analysis integrates grid, mini-grid, and off-grid systems under a diesel price of $1.1, 15% grid losses, and mini-hydro potential within 5 km. Energy demand is set at Tier 4 (1241 kWh/household/year) for urban areas and Tier 3 (365 kWh/household/year) for rural communities, consistent with regional consumption realities.
