How Generator-Filter Theory (GFT) Opens the Doors: A Meta-Level Framework for Unifying Physical and Informational Dynamics
This article presents Generator-Filter Theory (GFT) as a novel meta-level framework that bridges and extends existing theories in thermodynamics, information-theoretic physics, and quantum gravity. By reconceptualizing energy and information through a dual ontological lens—generators as algebraic potentials and filters as topological constraints—GFT provides a unified, geometric description of how systems organize potential into actuality. It addresses key limitations in prior approaches, such as their operational focus, lack of ontological depth, and limited generalizability. GFT introduces bidirectional co-evolution between generators and filters, incorporating causation and retrocausation to generate recursive structures. This framework redefines energy as a relational measure of alignment and information as dynamic coherence, extending its applicability to biological, cognitive, computational, and symbolic systems. Ultimately, GFT proposes a universal structural ontology where diverse phenomena emerge as projections of a single dual process.
