AD shares lessons learned from 30‐year career
When Mark Tucker, M.A., began his role as the new baseball coach at Surry Community College in 1995, he faced the challenge of launching a baseball program from scratch. The school didn’t have a baseball facility, history, uniforms, or players. “We actually had an open tryout to select our players for our first team,” he recalled. “We practiced and played at the high school next door for three years until we built an on‐campus field. After our initial year, we recruited and kept building on our success,” added Tucker, who continued as head coach until 2008.
