The Effectiveness of the “PASTI SEMBUH” Method in Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) to Improve Diabetes Mellitus Patients' Knowledge: A Case Study
Background: Knowledge is a fundamental aspect that supports patients in managing their Diabetes Mellitus disease independently. The educational method and media using the acronym "PASTI SEMBUH" have become one of the innovations in enhancing the knowledge of DM patients. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of increasing Diabetes Mellitus patients' knowledge through education using the "PASTI SEMBUH" method. Method: The research design used in this case study is based on evidence-based nursing practice with a sample selection according to inclusion criteria of 7 respondents. A measuring instrument was used to assess patients' knowledge about Diabetes Mellitus. The intervention for respondents involved education using the "PASTI SEMBUH" method with engaging media and easy access that has been digitized. Results: Based on the interventions conducted on the patients, the majority of the patients' knowledge levels before the intervention were low, with 6 respondents (85.7%). Then, after the intervention, the level of knowledge increased to moderate for 4 respondents (57.1%) and high for 2 respondents (28.6%). From the results of the SPSS test using the Wilcoxon test, a p-value of (0.02) < (0.05) was obtained, which means that there is an effect of implementing education using the "PASTI SEMBUH" method on the increase in knowledge of Diabetes Mellitus patients. Conclusion: Providing self-management education using the "PASTI SEMBUH" method to Diabetes Mellitus patients can enhance their knowledge regarding the management of Diabetes Mellitus.
