GREEN SYNTHESIS OF ZINC OXIDE NANOPARTICLES BY USING BEET ROOT EXTRACT

Abstract The synthesis of metal oxide nanoparticles with the use of medicinal plant extract is a promising alternative to the conventional chemical method. This work aimed to synthesize zinc oxide nanoparticles using a green approach from “Beet root” extract. The green zinc oxide nanoparticles were characterized using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy-energy, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. According to the result of this study, ZnO nanoparticles synthesized using Beet Root extract showed an average crystalline size of 17.44, 19.30 and 19.70 nm for the ZnO NPs calcined at 450, 550 and 650℃, respectively. The FT-IR analysis shows the presence of various functional groups such as ketones, alcohols, aldehydes and many others too. UV-Vis functional group analysis proves as the band gap energy was found in the range of 3.23 - 3.33 eV. The SEM analysis also shows the surface morphology of ZnO NPs was found to be hexagonal structure.
