Factors affecting the usability and task satisfaction management of groceries

Usability is an important factor when it comes to app development, especially across different age groups. Therefore, understanding these issues is vital in designing inclusive apps. This study aims to examine whether age influences the overall usability of “F.R.E.S.H”, a high-fidelity prototype of a mobile app designed to help users manage groceries and reduce food waste. To investigate this, a total of 20 participants were interviewed, equally divided between two age groups: 18-25 and 65 years and older. The usability was assessed using the System Usability Scale (SUS) and Single Ease Questions (SEQ). The overall experience of the app was evaluated using Graphical User Interface (GUI) questions as well as an open-ended questionnaire for qualitative insights. Results revealed that the younger group achieved a higher average SUS score compared to the older group and reported easier task completion through SEQ scores. Older participants experienced greater difficulty navigating the interface and identified issues such as low contrast and unclear icons. These findings highlight the need for inclusive design strategies to enhance usability for older adults.
