{Ø,U} The Source Code of Comprehension
This manuscript presents a unified theoretical framework for understanding observation, comprehension, and knowledge across scientific and philosophical domains. The {Ø,U} framework demonstrates that finite information processing systems necessarily discretize continuous phenomena to produce comprehensible outputs, with this discretization architecture constituting the observable structure of reality itself. The framework establishes one foundational principle. Continuous reality comprehends itself through finite perspectives that must discretize. This principle is systematically applied across quantum mechanics, mathematics, neuroscience, information theory, complex systems, and ethics, revealing convergent patterns that reflect a unified architecture of self-comprehension. The methodology integrates fifteen years of cross-disciplinary synthesis combining formal mathematical notation, empirical observations from multiple scientific fields, and insights from contemplative traditions. The framework provides operationalizable concepts including boundary analysis, aggregation dynamics, and resolution metrics applicable to both biological and artificial information processing systems. The work produces four key results. First, it resolves the "unreasonable effectiveness of mathematics" through circular compatibility between formalization and observation. Second, it reinterprets quantum measurement as discretization of continuous wave functions rather than collapse. Third, it models consciousness consolidation through recursive observation at integration thresholds. Fourth, it develops a framework for ethical optimization (Calculus of Agape) treating moral progress as smoothing discontinuities in collective wellbeing. Applications include AI system design, organizational decision-making, therapeutic approaches, and regulatory frameworks for hybrid human-AI systems. The framework bridges explanatory gaps between physical sciences, cognitive science, and philosophy while providing practical tools for conscious refinement of discretization patterns. This work contributes to philosophy of science, foundations of mathematics, philosophy of mind, and applied epistemology.
