Effectiveness of selected nursing management modalities on patency of intravenous cannula among children admitted in paediatric unit at selected hospitals of city
Intravenous (IV) therapy is a fundamental component in the treatment of hospitalized children, allowing for the effective administration of fluids, medications, and nutrients. However, maintaining the patency of IV cannulas in pediatric patients is often challenging due to factors such as vein fragility, movement, and infection risks. Proper nursing interventions play a crucial role in preventing complications and ensuring uninterrupted treatment. Objectives: To assess the effectiveness of selected nursing management modalities on the patency of intravenous cannulas among children admitted to pediatric units. Methods: A quasi-experimental pre-test post-test control group design was used. 60 children were selected, with 30 assigned to the experimental group and 30 to the control group. Data collection tools included structured observations, and statistical analysis involved descriptive statistics, paired t-tests, two-sample z-tests, and Fisher’s exact tests.
