Introductory Wiki Webinar WikiProject ASBS 2025
Slides and script for a free virtual introductory one-hour Wiki webinar held on online on Tuesday 14th of October at 3pm NZST offered as part of the ASBS Conference WikiProject. A recording of this presentation can be found here. The presenters Ambrosia10, also known as Siobhan Leachman, Wikimedian in Residence at the Manaaki Whenua Landcare Research Group of the New Zealand Bioeconomy Science Institute, and Stitchbird2, also known as Heidi Meudt, botanist and botanical curator at New Zealand's National Museum Te Papa Tongarewa, briefly introduced participants to Wiki community norms of behaviour, took participants through how to register for a Wiki account and create a user page. They then - using botany content as an example - outlined how to add information to English Wikipedia articles and how to generate citations supporting those statements. They introduced the image repository Wikimedia Commons and showed how to upload an image to Wikimedia Commons. Finally they explained the data repository Wikidata, gave examples of the types of data that can be added to Wikidata, and outlined how this data can be reused by third parties including websites such as the Biodiversity Heritage Library and natural history institutions such as Te Papa.
