ASSESING PHYSICAL FITNESS LEVEL OF DEBREBRHAN KENEMA MALE FOOTBALL PLAYERS
The purpose of this study was to assess the physical fitness level of Debre Berhan Kenema male
football players in relation to different playing positions i.e. goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders
and attackers. The whole 25 Debre Berhan Kenema male football players are the participant of
the study, Cross sectional study design was applied. The study was conducted on selected
physical fitness variables i.e. muscular strength, power, speed and agility. Standard norm were
applied for comparing the current fitness level of the players. Descriptive statistics was applied
for describing the score of the players by mean and standard deviation. One-way Analysis of
Variance (ANOVA) was applied to find out the significance of differences with regard to selected
physical fitness variables among football players of different playing positions. Post hoc (Tukey
HSD) test was applied to see the direction and significance of differences where ‘F’ value found
statistically significant. The level of significance was set at 0.05. While comparing the mean, it is
revealed that midfielders and defender had almost the same speed. Attackers had shown better
speed and agility than their counterparts; - goalkeepers, midfielder, defenders and also
Goalkeepers had shown lowest speed and strength than their counterparts, Further, significant
differences were found between football players of different playing positions with regard to the
variables strength (squat test) (p˂0.05) and agility (Illinois’ test) (p˂0.05), but
insignificantdifferenceswerefoundonthevariablespeed,andpowerrespectively(p˃0.05).
