COMPARATIVE STUDY ON THE EFFECTS OF RECREATIONAL FOOTBALL AND VOLLEYBALL INTERVENTION ON PHYSICAL FITNESS LEVEL OF SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS OF DARASHE WOREDA
The study was conducted to compare the effects of recreational football and volleyball
intervention on the physical fitness level of secondary school students of Darashe Woreda.
For this study 22 recreational football and 22recreational volleyball players were selected.
Physical fitness variables were muscular endurance, speed, agility, and power. The tests
taken to measure these parameters were sit ups, 50 m dash, broad jump and agility Illinois
run. Data wereanalyzed by using a t-test at 0.05 significance. Analysed data showed that
there was significant difference in sit -ups, 50 m dash, broad jump and Illinois’
runtestperformed by them.It is concluded that, recreational football played with fewer
players on a smaller field can be an effective training modality to improve muscular
endurances of participants rather than recreational volleyball players. However,
recreational volleyball participation was not such effective in improving muscular
endurances with in three month duration to get significant change. Further, the study
concludes that participating in recreational football has a significant effect on students
speed, power and agility compared to recreational volleyball participation. Researcher
recommended that, physical education teachers should use recreational football practices to
lift up physical finesses of male students and to be effective in no longer period of duration.
Moreover, recreational volleyball activities should be used little bit for longer time than
football activity to bring positive effects on physical finesses of students as well. The study
limitation may be the lack of nutritional control in both recreational volley ball and football
players. It would be expected that, upcoming researchers should consider these limitations as
well.
