Effect of the introduction of the use by date on the food industry

Korea's use-by-date labeling system came into effect on January 1, 2024. The problems with the current use-by-date are simply changing the sell-by-date as the use-by-date and the possibility of a food safety accident due to carelessness in temperature management at the production and distribution stage of food. In order to solve this problem, it was judged that continuous government support, such as providing recommended reference values, and strengthening temperature management of refrigerated carriers and retail refrigerators were necessary. The impact of the use-by-date on the food industry is expected to reconfirm the effectiveness of critical control points of existing production processes and safety management of food raw materials to prevent food safety accidents. In addition, it is predicted that production efficiency of food companies will increase due to a longer use-by-date.
