Providing a holistic framework for enhancing integrity, traceability and transparency in quality labelled food supply chain – ALLIANCE
ALLIANCE[1] is a three-year project funded by the European Union's leading research and innovation program, Horizon Europe, which aims to prevent fraud in the food supply chain, with a particular focus on products with quality labels, such as organic products and those protected by geographical indications. The project represents an innovative approach in the fight against food fraud through the integration of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT) and blockchain technology. In Croatia, the specific objective of the project is to improve the traceability of potatoes from Lika, which are protected by the geographical designation of origin (PGI). This goal is to be achieved through the application of smart contracts and the establishment of a blockchain that will enable better control and monitoring of all steps in the supply chain. University of Zagreb Faculty of Agriculture, Lika potato producer’s association and the Biotechnicon d.o.o., together with 22 other partners, are participating in the project, which is coordinated by the University of Thessaly in Greece. The ALLIANCE project contributes to increasing safety and transparency in the food supply chain by developing standardized protocols that facilitate collaboration and information sharing between supply chain actors.
